Hello. I am Tiare pronounced Tee-are.

Full-time artist and instructor.

Hi. I’m Tiare and I’m a full-time artist and instructor.

I create black, female, figurative art to give voice to the desires that have been suppressed and denied, and to make space for courage, love and joy and all of its facets.

Growing up in Chicago with a single mother after losing my father at a young age my life was surrounded by many women. Women who protected me, women who taught me, who loved me, who encouraged me.  Women who fought, who struggled, who tried, who survived.

Although, creativity was encouraged I also got the messaging that teachers don’t make any money and that artists starve.  Therefore, when it was time to head off to college, I majored in Accounting and then switched to marketing. This route left me feeling empty and at times anxious.  While in college I took a drawing class but instead of feeling excited, it literally sucked the creative joy out of me.  I then put down my pencil for 18 years!

My art returned to me in a fit of emotion, 18 years later when I picked up my pencil to draw.  With a strong desire to express myself more freely,  to tell the stories not often told and share what is possible, I began to paint.

Since teaching came to me naturally (I was a tutor in college, taught scrapbooking and card making and created the training program at my job), and friends started asking about art journaling and the various techniques I used, I began teaching mixed media art journaling classes.

Through my online art classes like Splatter Splotch and Splash and One BADASS Art Journal students learn to create without judgment, experience joy in creating, express themselves more freely and embrace the creative possibilities.

“My art reflects the wonderful women (and sometimes men) who informed and continue to inform my life…my mom, neighbors, teachers, friends, 2nd and 3rd mom. Black women. Strong women. Smart women. Beautiful women. Loving women. Do you women.”
